11.       Notice of Motions

Motion 1  (a & b) Proposed by – Seleena Nichols and Seconded by – Vicki Thomas
1a) That neuters be removed from the points table used to calculate the winner of The Althof Perpetual Trophy & The Dunpender Perpetual Trophy.

1b) That the points allocated to neuters be reduced to reflect the competition in the neuter ring. Neuter Ch - 5 points, Neuter Best in Show - 1 point Neuter Best in Group - 0 points. The * restriction on show numbers for entire dogs be applied to neuters.

NOTE: Should motion 1a be carried motion 1b shall be withdrawn.

Rationale: The current format of this trophy is not equitable. There are many examples where neutered dogs have an unfair advantage over field, retrieving and entire show dogs in the points table. We are a breed club, and entire exhibits should always be given greater weight as it is their qualities that may be caried forward in the whelping box. These are long standing trophies and the recent inclusion of neuters in the calculation unfairly skiers the results and devalues efforts of dogs in other fields of endeavour.

Eg: 31.1.26 Classic Dog Show KCC Park – 474 Entries (inc Neuter)

Total Entire Dogs in Show – 447 Total Neuter dogs in Show – 27 (inc 4 abs)

Best in Show (Entire) – 20 points Best in Show (Neuter) – 10 points

Group 3 Entire Dogs – 67 entered Group 3 Neuters – 5 entered

Group 3 Points for Best in Group (Entire) - 10 Group 3 Points for Best in Group (Neuter) – 5

In this example – At the group level Neuters make up only 6.9% of group 3 but can get 50% trophy points allocated to entire dogs. The neuter only has 4 dogs to compete for points, whereas entire dogs need to beat 66 other dogs to gain trophy points.

At the Show level Neuters only make up 6% of the show but can get 50% of the trophy points allocated to entire dogs. The neuter only has 22 (4abs) to compete against for points, whereas entire dogs need to beat 446 other dogs to gain trophy points.

To compare this against Field and retrieving points – A neuter only has to beat 4 dogs to get neuter in group and a retrieving dog to gain the same number of points (5) would need to place 5TH in the National or State Championship. A field dog for 6 points all age open field trial 3rd or Novice field trial second.

The number of opportunities for dogs to gain points is also inequitable. The number of shows available for a neuter dog to enter in comparison with field, retrieval and obedience competition must be taken into consideration when finalising the points allocated.

With shows running almost every weekend and some weekend there is a cluster of 6 shows to enter neuters have the opportunity to enter over 100+ shows a year. Field, retrieving and obedience dogs do not have this opportunity.

Points table attached and supplied.

Motion 7: Proposed by – Seleena Nichols and Seconded by – Vicki Thomas
“That the All-Breeds Award of Excellence Trophy” be renamed the “Neuter Show Trophy” and only be open to Neutered Dogs and Bitches. This will be achieved by deleting all references to awards other than Neuter awards.

Rationale: The current format of this trophy is not equitable. Entire dogs and neuter dogs should not be held in the same regard; they do not compete against each other at a show, they participate in different competitions. It is unrealistic to compare entire dog results against neuter dog results. We are a breed club, and entire exhibits should always be given greater weight as it is their qualities that may be caried forward in the whelping box.

We do not require two show trophies as entire dogs & bitches have a longstanding show trophy already. It is unnecessary and costly in a time of declining entries and membership. The neuters deserve to be recognised in their own right in a like for like competition not against entire exhibits. By reallocating this trophy, we ‘Kill two birds with one stone”, rationalising the trophies and giving neuters a trophy in their own right.

In its current form the point score devised for this trophy is unfairly weighted towards neuter dogs, it does not correlate with the number of animals competing in shows and gives neuter dogs an unfair point advantage.

Eg: 31.1.26 Classic Dog Show KCC Park – 474 Entries (inc Neuter)

Total Entire Dogs in Show – 447 Total Neuter dogs in Show – 27 (inc 4 abs)

Best in Show (Entire) – 15 points Best in Show (Neuter) – 7 points

Group 3 Entire Dogs – 67 entered Group 3 Neuters – 5 entered

Group 3 Points for Best in Group (Entire) - 5 Group 3 Points for Best in Group (Neuter) – 1

In this example – At the group level Neuters make up only 6.9% of group 3 but can get 20% trophy points allocated to entire dogs.
